3 Unexpected Expenses after Closing

8:07 PM

This past week has been one of the most stressful weeks I've ever experienced. I closed on my first home, moved into said home, broke my AC, and almost blew up my dryer... I thought I was prepared. But sometimes Sh*t happens. So its always to best to have a plan B, C, 1,  and triangle.... Ya know.... Just in case. Below I've listed some of my unexpected expenses when Sh*t just happens.

1. Utilities:
Most people know that utilities are expensive to transfer/activate, But what some people (I myself included) didn't realize is that there're some added cost on top of that. One, being the service charge. Sure you pay to get your utilities setup but you also you have to pay for the services of turning them on. Secondly, depending on your location you need permits. My previous home owners were kind enough to keep all the utilities on but I still need to get permits for them. Also, I needed to bring my permit to the SEWER  company to get a sticker to approve my ELECTRICAL permit. Explain that? Because I sure can't. So between the hassle of extra money for service charge and crazy permit issues I was spinning in circles.

2. Home issues:
Even though the utilities were still on, when someone hasn't lived in a house for a little while ... things tend to break. For example, my AC had a very small Freon leak so It froze over after night two of staying there. Luckily that was a easy temporary fix. Also, the seals on the kitchen sink went out so we had puddles of water under the cabinet. I'm still looking over my shoulder waiting for something else to break.

3. Simple Learning:
People learn everyday. Sometimes it takes making mistakes a few times to "really" learn. In my case it was just laziness. I needed to dry my clothes and they already had clothes in the dryer. Instead of de-wrinkling the first set it just said F**k it and threw them all in there. Well..... I know my fire alarm works. I had my poor dryer smoking ... Just from overloading it.

So even if you have a perfect experience closing and moving in. Some times just shear stupidity and laziness will cost you or almost cost you extra expenses. Some times little hiccups can turn into a full blown asthma attack if you don't pay attention or be prepared.
